Dental crowns in a single visit with Trios, iTero and Fastmill technology

The crown is the visible part of your tooth. When it is damaged by decay, a fracture or wear, an artificial crown can effectively restore or replace it.

At the Centre dentaire & d’implantologie Boucherville, we use advanced digital technology (Trios, iTero and Fastmill) to design and place your crown in a single visit:

  • Fast, comfortable digital impressions
  • A custom ceramic or zirconia crown perfectly fitted to your bite
  • Made on site, right away
  • An esthetic, durable and natural result
  • Safe, biocompatible materials

No more temporary crowns or multiple visits. Enjoy a restored smile with unmatched comfort, precision and efficiency.

What materials do we use?

We recommend zirconia for back crowns because of its great strength, and ceramic for front crowns, where esthetics are essential.

Can every crown be made in a single visit?

Not always. Depending on the tooth to be treated, we may recommend:

  • a crown made in the clinic in a single visit, or
  • a crown made in a laboratory for cases that require a higher level of esthetics.

We will guide you towards the option best suited to your situation.

Is it equivalent to a CEREC system?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, meaning a ceramic restoration made right at the chair in a single visit.

Several systems achieve this result — including Glidewell’s Fastmill, which we use at the clinic.

How do Trios, iTero and Fastmill work?

This technology allows us to create partial crowns (inlays/onlays) or full crowns in a single visit. The restoration is produced through computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM).

It can replace a damaged natural crown, restore a tooth that can no longer support a filling or replace a defective restoration.

Equipment used and treatment steps

With the Trios / iTero / Fastmill workflow, the entire process — design, fabrication and placement — is completed in a single visit.

1. Digital camera (scanner)

We scan the tooth, the adjacent teeth and your bite. The images are extremely precise and much more comfortable than traditional impressions.

2. Design software

From the 3D images, the dentist designs a crown perfectly suited to your tooth. The process is fast, precise and highly predictable.

3. Computerized milling robot

A high-precision milling unit carves your crown from a block of ceramic or zirconia using diamond burs. This step takes 20 to 45 minutes, after which the crown is ready to be placed. A high-performance resin cement ensures a strong, lasting bond.

Benefits of Trios, iTero and Fastmill technology

Ultra-precise impressions

Digital impressions are extremely accurate and much more comfortable than traditional paste impressions.

High-precision design

3D imaging lets the dentist design a crown with exceptional precision and minimal risk of error.

Complete transparency

The whole process takes place in the clinic, before your eyes. Patients can watch their crown being designed and milled.

Speed

No laboratory delays. Your ceramic or zirconia crown is made and placed in a single visit.

Safety and reliability

These technologies are well documented, proven and highly reliable.

Greater comfort

Only one local anesthetic is needed — unlike traditional methods, which require two.

Predictability

Unlike metal restorations, ceramic and zirconia do not expand or contract with temperature changes. This means less sensitivity or discomfort day to day.

Exceptional esthetics

Ceramic crowns are highly customizable and closely mimic natural teeth. Their colour remains stable over time.

Biocompatibility

All the materials used are safe and compatible with the body.

Preserving natural tooth structure

Ceramic crowns and restorations preserve more healthy tooth in the long term. They are more durable than fillings and need replacing less often.

Since everything is done in a single visit, the fragile tooth structure is protected — no risk of breakage between two appointments.
